She's Almost There

February 26, 2010

The day of the search for King and Queen of Hearts has come. I and my group mate Went to Villahermosa to support the activity. We assisted our pupils who were participants of the said activity. When we arrived, I found Sofia in the classroom - fully dressed and more than ready to face the crowd and show her knacks. As the program started, the crowd can't help but to clap their hands for the candidates who were so energized that time. The talent portion came. So Sofia get ready for it. When she was called to perform, the crowd was impressed because of Sofia's aura. The music played and Sofia started to dance. The people was amazed. When she is about to remove her outer costume, unfortunately the music stopped. The crowd reacted. Sofia got disappointed. I asked her to come to me for a while and tell her that we will repeat the music allover again. I think she was humiliated because feel she was conscious(she looks at me for several times) as she dance for the second time.

From that incident, I learned that it is not good to disappoint a child. So when I become a teacher, I hope that I can build trust of among my pupils for I to be an effective teacher to them.

Dance, Sofia, Dance

February 15, 2010

I was tasked by my coopearating teacher to teach Sofia, one of my pupils in Villahermosa, a dance presentation as her talent for the search for King and Queen of Hearts. At first, I asked her if she danced before. And she repeatedly nodded at me. I then prepared for the dance presentation, the props, the music, and the dance steps and choreography. I prepared dance steps which I know she can execute based on my initial interview. But during are practices, she find it difficilt to execute what I'm trying to teach her. I asked myself why. I reviewed my discussion in Child Psychology and I found that child of that age really finds difficulty in complex dance figures. This is because their motor coordination is not well developed yet. So the next time that I will teach children of that age, I will consider this principle.

Simulan sa PNU

Last March 18, I attended the 5th Infoed Awards Night because of our groups final output, the PNU Ad which I entitled "Simulan sa PNU." I feel so great that time. That after several sleepless nights because of the brainstorming, preparations, recording, shooting, and editing, the fruit of our labor will now be viewed in a wide screen. My group mates enjoyed it much more than what I expected. I'm apt to cry that time because of mixed feelings of joy and gladness most especially after the winners of the main awards had been announced. Melaine got the Best Performer trophy in the PNU Ad category. Likewise, I got the Best Sound Editor and Best Editor trophy which I would like to dedicate to my group mates. We also got the Best Script, Best in Production Design, and Best Cinematography. But what makes me feel so good is when our ad was announced as the Best Picture and when I was awarded as the Best Director.

Here is the URL of our ad which we would like to dedicated to our Alma Mater. I hope you'll enjoy this too.

Final Demonstration

February 8, 2010

I'm sure, Ms. Maravilla was on pins and needles during that
time. Final demonstration, for the senior students, is really a challenge for all of them to surpass. Somehow, this serves as a manifestation of the expected competences in them after their 4 year-stay in the institution.

In Ms. Maravilla's demonstration, she was able to did it well. Her personality is one of the main factors. Another thing is that the pupils were interested for the lesson because of the activities provided by the teacher. But what affects the healthy discussion most is material used by her. Aside from the fact that it supported the concepts which the teacher wants to imply, it concretized the ideas. It's a fact that materials impact in the mind of the pupils and retention occurs because of the images presented. Additionally, interactive activities because of the materials supported retention and made the learning more effective because every pupil in the class was involved and enjoyed the activity. Furthermore, with the aid of the materials, the time was managed well and the lesson ended on the time expected.

I'm Back

February 5, 2010,

It had been a long time since I last visited my cooperating school for my FS observation. I almost miss my students in Grade 2, their naughtiness and their childish questions. Speaking of childish questions, last Feb. 5, 2010 when I went to Villahermosa, a girl came to me and ask a question. Actually, they are having their examination during that time since it was Friday. She got confused in one of the questions in the test paper. There was a mathematical problem being asked. The question ask for what is asked in the problem. In the past, the teacher just tell the students that the last statement in the problem answers the "What is asked" question. But in the choices, the correct answer is in letter A but there's a sudden grammatical change.

In this incident, I've gone into a conclusion that critical thinking was not developed in the child. Of course, the teacher has something to do. She should not let the just memorize the actual answer. Instead, let them think in a critical way by helping the pupils come out to the expectations.
